They look at us with piercing eyes, their hatred pollutes the air.
Should we really have love for them?
They bear false witness against us, their lies tarnishes our character.
Should we really have love for them?
They demand our food and clothes, their envy makes us sick.
Should we really have love for them?
They spit in our face and persecute us, their fame is our torture.
Should we really have love for them?
They disguise in sheep's clothing, their hunger is to devour us.
Should we really have love for them?
They show no mercy to the ones we love, their thirst is to destroy.
Should we really have love for them?
They scorn our faith in God, their boasts are all for and about nothing.
Should we really have love for them?
They call our liberty bondage, their perverseness has them intoxicated.
Should we really have love for them?
They mock our God and attempt to deny Him, their folly is sin and its wages death.
We were once God's enemies.
Yes, we ought to really have love for them.
Our God expects us to.
Our God equips us to.
Our God commands us to:
"But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
In this way, you show that you are children of your Father who is in heaven." (Matthew 5:44-45a)
