A Prayer from Psalm 131

Dear LORD, my heart is sometimes proud.
Help me to learn well that having a proud heart is of no good.
My eyes are at times raised too high.
Teach me how to always set my eyes on Your commandments.
Make me learn well that it is not good to be selfishly ambitious.
Let me not be preoccupied with things too marvelous for me.
For the secret things belong to You alone, O LORD [Deuteronomy 29:29].
Cause me instead to calm and quiet my soul, like a wean child with its mother.
Yes LORD, calm and quiet my soul like a wean child with its mother.
Make me hope in You today and always! For it is good to hope in You. Amen!

Heart Follows Treasure

Where your treasure is there your heart will be.
Is my treasure that audacious to captivate me?
Can it capture my heart making me its slave?
Can it truly come to dictate the way I behave?

Where your treasure is there your heart will be?
Who decides this, is it my treasure or is it me?
Doesn't my treasure begin within me as a desire?
Isn't it something that I am choosing to acquire?

Where your treasure is there your heart will be?
Is it possible for my treasure to not control me?
Am I that easily given over to what I treasure?
Am I destined to serve what gives me pleasure?

Where your treasure is there your heart will be!
The one who said this spoke with real authority.
For He knows the heart and what lies therein,
He knows its deception and it's capacity to sin.

Where my treasure is there my heart will be,
And there you see what has truly captured me.
So be diligent self, make sure each day you start,
With a prayer to treasure Christ with all your heart!
